A self-proclaimed legal research nerd, Jorie believes that the relative merits of Westlaw vs. Quicklaw is reasonable dinner party conversation. Jorie is committed to understanding the facts and nuances of her clients’ legal issues early on, in order to provide practical and strategic advice to resolve a given dispute.

Prior to joining Allen / McMillan, Jorie articled and practiced at both national and regional law firms, as well as the British Columbia Securities Commission. She brings a wealth of experience in a wide variety of civil litigation matters, including administrative law, regulatory investigations, and commercial disputes involving complex contractual and tort claims. Jorie has appeared at all levels of court in British Columbia, as well as the Supreme Court of Canada. 

Originally from Chilliwack, Jorie spent time in the big city before realizing that the dirt biking was far better back in the ‘Wack. She spends her spare time teaching her dog to understand more words than the average four year old.

Significant Cases

  1. King v Vimhel, 2024 BCSC 1745: represented the plaintiff in a successful summary trial application in a claim in undue influence stemming from a predatory relationship, obtaining an order that the plaintiff’s property be transferred back to her as well as an award of punitive damages.

  2. Resonance Holdings Ltd. v Infiniti Investments Inc., 2020 BCSC 2141: represented a real estate company and obtained special costs of an application necessitated by the defendant's evasive conduct at discovery and spurious assertion of settlement privilege in relation to relevant documents in the litigation.

  3. Chua v Jassal, 2020 BCCA 283: represented the respondent landowners in an appeal of a contract and trespass claim brought by their neighbour. The appeal was dismissed subject to a minor variation.

  4. Chhina v Rebecca L. Darnell Law Corporation, 2020 BCSC 1871: represented the plaintiffs and obtained a successful determination of liability in a claim involving the failed purchase of a law firm by the two plaintiff lawyers from the defendant firm owner.

  5. Pink v 0957765 B.C. Ltd., 2019 BCSC 1684: represented a Vancouver-based real estate developer in a 19 day trial against real estate agents seeking a commission for a real estate purchase that did not complete.

  6. Represented a landlord in a judicial review of a decision of the Residential Tenancy Branch, obtaining an order for a new hearing.

  7. Represented an employer in a human rights claim that was successfully resolved at mediation.

  8. Represented the Executive Director of the British Columbia Securities Commission in prosecuting several cases involving allegations of fraud and insider trading.
