ASSOCIATE


Alex is a dedicated collector of law degrees, bar admissions, and Pokémon plush toys. He is a dual-qualified lawyer with trilingual proficiency in English, Cantonese and Mandarin. Having practiced for nearly a decade with various international firms in Hong Kong, he brings a wealth of experience to his Canadian practice.

Alex specializes in civil litigation and arbitration. He has experience handling complex cases involving commercial transactions, shareholders’ remedies, director’s duties, as well as fraud and asset recovery. He also has experience in assisting clients in regulatory investigations and compliance matters.

Alex is a passionate advocate for access to justice. In Hong Kong, he played a pivotal role in establishing a groundbreaking precedent that enables migrant workers to pursue their claims in the Hong Kong courts remotely from their home countries. In Canada, he has contributed to the Chinese translation of the Guide to Civil Procedure at the Supreme Court of British Columbia for self-represented litigants. 

In his spare time, Alex loves learning new languages. When he is not working, he is probably enjoying his 100th viewing of Frozen with his young daughter.

Significant Cases

  1. Bajwa v Bajwa, 2024 BCSC 1428: represented the parents of a spouse in a family law dispute, where a claimant was seeking an interest in the parents’ real property.

  2. Represented the sellers in an HKIAC arbitration against a KOSDAQ-listed company involving the sale of a mobile gaming business, and successfully reached post-hearing settlement.

  3. Represented two individuals in an SIAC arbitration for a claim for earn out consideration of USD35 million against a NASDAQ-listed company.

  4. Represented a publicly listed company in defending claims concerning the recovery of shareholders’ loans (settled before trial) and convertible bonds.

  5. Represented two directors of a publicly listed company in defending a derivative action, and successfully reached pre-trial settlement.

  6. Represented two shareholders in an urgent injunction application to restrain the defendants from seizing control of the company.

  7. Represented a trading company in varying an injunction to restore its business and operation.
